Most sewists start in a room full of questions with nobody to answer them: which settings do what, why the thread keeps breaking, what to do when a seam puckers. This course answers those questions in the order they actually come up, and never assumes you already know something.

Twenty-nine lessons take you from an unopened sewing machine to clothes you made yourself. Every lesson is filmed close up and shows the whole action rather than the highlights — including the parts that go wrong the first time.

Why this and not a hundred free videos

A free tutorial teaches you a trick. This teaches you an order: machine, stitch, seam, finish, garment — each lesson resting on the one before it, so you are never asked to do something nobody showed you. Nothing is skipped for being boring, and nothing is sped up at the moment it matters.

By the end you are not copying steps any more. You understand why a seam is pressed one way and not the other, and you can look at a pattern you have never seen and know roughly how it goes together.

Who it's for

People who have never sewn a stitch and want to start properly rather than by trial and error. It also suits anyone who sews already but learned by guessing and keeps meeting the same problems — wavy seams, puckered hems, a zipper that refuses to lie flat.

It is not an advanced course. If you are comfortable drafting and fitting your own patterns, you already know most of this.
