A two-tone top, cut for play

This girls' cropped top pairs two fabrics at a center-front seam, with the raw edges wrapped clean by a self-fabric neckband, armhole bands, and hem band — no lining, zippers, or clasps required.

Sized from 3 to 10 years (98–140 cm height).

What you'll need

Suggested fabrics

This top is made from two fabric colors — we give the consumption and layouts using two fabrics, but you can also sew it in a single fabric.

You can sew this top as swimwear — use biflex fabric. For a light summer top instead, choose a light-weight cotton lycra jersey.

Use a serger (overlock) to sew it. If you don't have a serger, replace it with a stretch stitch or zigzag stitch on your sewing machine. Use rubber elastic when sewing the swimwear version.

Also needed

  • Rubber elastic (for the swimwear version)
  • Threads to match the fabric
  • Baste details together before stitching to avoid displacement of the upper fabric
  • Seam allowances are already included on every pattern piece
