Eight steps, from the codpiece to the hem.
Stitch two codpieces (2) along the centre seam. Press the seam allowance.
Pin one codpiece to the wrong side of the main piece (1), aligning the notches. Pin the second codpiece to the right side of the main piece, aligning the notches, and stitch everything together on an overlock machine. The seam should be on the inside.
Finish the second edge in the same way. The seam should be on the inside. Press the seams.
Pin the gusset (3) to the codpiece using the notches. Stitch it on the overlock machine and press.
Stitch the lower edge of the gusset to the lower edge of the main piece. Press the seam.
Cut the elastic band to the desired length and stitch it into a loop using a «lock» stitch: first make a flat stitch with an open edge, then fold the pieces so that the edges are on the inside, and sew the first row of stitches 0.1 cm (0.04″) from the fold and the second row 0.5–0.7 cm (0.20–0.27″) from the first.
Mark four control points on the elastic band and, aligning them with the notches on the waistline of the boxer shorts, pin them to the right side. Stitch the elastic band with a zigzag stitch, evenly stretching it. Alternatively, stitch it with a closed stitch, placing the elastic band wrong side to the wrong side of the waistline, sewing a seam width of 0.5 cm. Fold the boxer shorts down and sew a second fixing stitch along the edge of the elastic band.
Hem the bottom of the boxer shorts with a zigzag stitch or a double needle.
