A double-layered jersey beanie

A basic men's round-shaped, double-layered hat, suitable both for classic looks and for sportswear.

It can be worn for outdoor workouts or for walks in cold weather.

What you'll need

Suggested materials

  • Knitted jersey fabrics with good stretch
  • Fabric needed — 60 cm (23.6″)
  • Fabric width used throughout this tutorial — 1.50 m (59.1″)

Also needed

  • Threads to match the fabric
  • An overlock machine for the seams

Pattern pieces already include 0.7 cm (0.27″) seam allowances for all edges. The fabric use does not include possible shrinkage — please account for it and buy 5–10% more than required.

Step by step

Sewing instructions

Five steps from the centre seam to the pressed fold.

  1. 1

    Stitch the centre seam using an overlock, leaving an opening for turning. Press the seam.

  2. 2

    Stitch the darts on the front with an overlock, press and ease the fullness.

  3. 3

    Stitch the rounded edges of the beanie with an overlock, and press the seams.

  4. 4

    Turn the beanie right side out through the opening, and hand-stitch the opening closed.

  5. 5

    Fold the beanie in half along the fold, and press the top and the fold.

The hat is ready!
