Stretchy sport shorts with a center front and back seam, a folded double-needle hem, and an elasticated waistband finished with a folded casing — sewn entirely on a serger.
These shorts are built from two main panels joined at a center front and back seam, with an inseam, a folded double-needle hem, and an elasticated waistband finished with a folded casing. The whole project comes together on a serger, making it a quick, satisfying sew.
Sized from 3 to 10 years (98–140 cm height).
Stretchy fabrics work best: biflex, blended cotton, or rib knits.
Sew this pattern on a serger (overlock). No serger? A stretch or zigzag stitch on a regular machine works too. Baste pieces together before stitching to keep the top fabric from shifting.

Measure the elastic over the waist. Pin its short edges and stitch it into a ring.
Fold the waistband in half, wrong sides together, and place the elastic inside. Pin the waistband along the waistline, aligning the notches. Baste it, then serge in place. Press the seam allowances onto the garment.
