The Victoria

a V-neck dress with an oversized collar

A romantic mini with a deep V-neckline framed by a wide, statement collar (lovely in a contrasting fabric). Puff sleeves gather into a neat cuff, and the fitted bodice meets a softly gathered skirt at a slim waistband, finished with a tie belt that ribbons at the back.

What you'll need

The Victoria is best in something soft and fluid. The dramatic collar looks especially striking when sewn in a contrasting fabric.

i.

Light & flowy

Viscose, crepe and silk drape beautifully through the gathered skirt and puff sleeves.

ii.

Soft blends

Cotton + viscose or a soft polyester crepe give a touch more body while keeping the skirt graceful.

iii.

A contrast collar

Add half a metre of a second fabric — crisp white satin or a contrast tone — for the statement collar.

Mind the shrinkage. Pre-wash your fabric and allow a 5–10% margin in case it shrinks.

Twenty-nine steps across eight stages — the bodice, the collar, the belt, the sleeves, and the gathered skirt. Tick each one off as you go.

The reveal

Your dress is ready

Press one last time, tie the belt at the back, and let the skirt take its shape. A dress with a real personality — that wide collar does most of the talking.
