What you'll need

Suggested fabrics

We recommend a dense knitwear with lycra — two-thread French terry is perfect. For warmer pants, use a denser knitwear such as three-thread French terry or fleece.

If you choose a warmer main fabric like fleece, use rib-knit or two-thread French terry with lycra for the waistband, in a matching color. The fabric should be dense, stretch well, and then restore its shape.

Also needed

Sewing instructions

Pockets

3 steps
  1. 1

Sew the pocket facing and side lining together on an overlocker, then press the seam allowances onto the pocket lining.

  2. 2

Pin the side pocket bag to the front pants, right sides together; sew on an overlocker, press and fold onto the edge, then press again.

  3. 3

Pin the pocket bags right sides together, sew on an overlocker, and press.

Assembling the pants

3 steps
  1. 1

Pin the back pants right sides together along the seat seam, and pin the front pants together along the middle edge; sew both on an overlocker and press.

  2. 2

Pin the front and back pants right sides together along the side cuts, matching the control points; sew on an overlocker and press the seam onto the back pieces.

  3. 3

Pin the front and back pants along the leg seam; sew on an overlocker and press the seam onto the back.

Waistband & belly insert

7 steps
  1. 1

Interface the front piece of the waistband and install the grommets. Sew it to the base of the waistband on an overlocker, then press the seam onto the long part of the waistband.

  2. 2

Pin the elastic inserter right sides together and stitch along the side seams; press.

  3. 3

Overlock the top edge of the elastic inserter and press. Turn the top edge 2 cm (¾") and press, then stitch with a double needle, leaving an opening for threading the elastic.

  4. 4

Fold the waistband in half lengthwise and insert the elastic, pre-stitched into a ring, inside; secure with pins and sew two parallel lines along the entire waistband to form the drawstring channel.

  5. 5

Pin the waistband to the pants, right sides together, and sew on an overlocker.

  6. 6

Pin the elastic inserter on top of the waistband along the stitching seam line and sew on — a contrasting thread is recommended so it's easy to remove later.

  7. 7

Thread the elastic band into the inserter and the cord into the waistband.

Mark the length of the trousers, fold, and stitch the hem. Give the pants a final press.
