A membrane jacket with soft insulation for spring weather — from +5°C down to -10°C. Deep hood, wind-guard placket, welt pockets, and a straight, roomy silhouette that layers easily over warm clothes.
This hooded jacket pairs a water-repellent membrane shell with soft insulation and a cozy lining, giving kids a windproof, weather-ready layer for spring days.
The straight silhouette has extended back coverage, a deep hood with a drawstring closure, a wind-guard placket over the zipper, and two welt pockets. Sized from 18 months to 10 years (86–140 cm height).
We recommend a membrane fabric for the outer shell — it holds up well against rain and keeps the moisture out.
150 g Hollofiber (or a similar soft insulation) keeps the jacket warm without adding bulk.
Fleece works well as the main lining; taffeta or another smooth lining fabric is a good choice for the sleeves.
For the membrane, use a thin, sharp Microtex needle and a presser foot with a sliding sole. Pin only within the seam allowances with very sharp pins — pin marks can remain visible on membrane fabric.

Sew thermal insulation to the wrong side of each detail (main fabric or lining — both work). Stitch 0.5 cm (0.2") from the edge, then trim away the excess insulation.
If you'd like reflective piping on the center hood, pull the inside cord out and trim 2 cm (0.8") from each end, then pin the piping to the center hood along the seam line.
Sew the center hood piece from the main fabric to the side hood pieces, matching notches and stitching over the piping. Clip the curves.
Top stitch the seam allowances to the side hood.
Sew the center hood lining to the side hood lining pieces, matching notches — use extra pins along the curve.
Sew the hood facing to the front edge of the hood lining, then top stitch the facing's allowances in place.
Install the eyelets where marked with chalk, reinforcing the spot with interfacing or an extra layer of main fabric.
Join the finished hood (already sewn to its facing) with the hood lining along the front edge, and clip the curves.
Mark the pocket opening on the front panel and the allowances on the welt.
Fold the welt in half lengthwise and press, then pin it to the pocket opening line and sew in place.
Pin the small pocket piece to the pocket underlay, right sides together. Stitch, then top stitch the allowances to the underlay.
Mark the allowances on the wrong side of the pocket underlay and pin it to the second pocket opening line — the distance between the two lines should be exactly 2 cm (0.8"). Sew in place.
Pin the large pocket piece over the welt and sew directly over the previous stitch line, then cut the pocket opening along its center and clip diagonally into the corners to form triangles.
Turn the pocket pieces to the wrong side and stitch the corner triangles close to the welt seamlines, then top stitch both sides of the pocket opening and stitch the pocket pieces together.
Pin front and back together at the shoulder, right sides facing, and stitch. Top stitch the allowances to the back.
Pin and stitch the side seams of the front and back, leaving 1 cm (0.4") unstitched at the hem.
Fold each sleeve in half and stitch the side seam, leaving 2 cm (0.8") open at the hem to thread the elastic through later.
Insert the sleeves into the armholes, stitch in place, and clip the curves.
Pin the front facing to the front lining, right sides together, and stitch. Top stitch the allowances to the front panel.
Pin the back hem facing to the back lining and stitch, then top stitch the allowances to the back hem facing.
Pin the neck facing to the lining neckline and sew in place — clip the curves on the lining allowances only, then top stitch to the back lining.
Pin the lining's shoulder seams together and stitch.
Pin and stitch the lining's side seams, again leaving 1 cm (0.4") open at the hem.
Fold each lining sleeve in half and stitch the side seam, right sides together — leave a turning gap in one sleeve.
Insert the lining sleeves into the armholes, stitch, and clip the allowances.
Fold the zipper underlap and stitch the short edges.
Pin the main-fabric hood into the neckline, matching notches, and sew in place. Clip the curves.
Pin the lining hood into the neckline and stitch.
Fold the main-fabric sleeve hem over the lining sleeve hem and pin — double-check the side seam runs as one continuous, untwisted line — then stitch.
Pin and stitch the lining to the garment along the back hem.
Pin the front panels together along the hem and stitch.
Sew the zipper underlap to the wrong side of the zipper and fold at the top.
Thread the elastic cord through the eyelets and the cord fastener, then sew the ends to the neckline allowances.
Pin the zipper to the main-fabric front, pin the lining over the zipper, baste everything together, stitch, and clip the corners — repeat on the other side, matching the neckline marks.
Stitch the jacket and lining together along the neckline allowances, then hand-stitch the shoulder allowances of lining and garment together.
Top stitch the hood into the hood-facing seam to form the drawstring casing, then top stitch along the zipper and the hem.
Sew the placket pieces together along the short edges and one long edge, clip the corners, turn right side out, and top stitch.
Pin the placket to the right front panel along the placket line and sew 0.5 cm (0.2") from the edge, then fold it to the left and top stitch 0.5 cm (0.2") from the edge.
Mark the snap positions and install the snaps.
Thread the elastic through the sleeve hems.
