Step by step

Sewing instructions

Three stages, from the plackets to the finished shirt.

Plackets

7 steps
  1. 1

Reinforce the ease allowance of the bottom of the plackets on the front piece (1).

  2. 2

Iron press the plackets (4) lengthwise and in half with the wrong side inward, and also iron press one longitudinal cut to the wrong side by 0.7 cm (1⁄3″). Do this symmetrically on two plackets.

  3. 3

Stitch the plackets to the front piece from the front side. Important! The stitches on both sides must end at the same level.

  4. 4

Cut the seam allowances for attaching the plackets at the bottom at an angle of 45 degrees, not reaching 0.1 cm (1⁄16″) to the stitching lines.

  5. 5

Iron press the seam allowances on the plackets.

  6. 6

Place the sleeve pieces (3) face to face on the front piece and sew along the armhole line. Iron press the seam ease allowances onto the product.

  7. 7

Place the second side of the raglan sleeves on the back (2) face to face and stitch. Iron press the seam allowances onto the product.

Stand

9 steps
  1. 1

Iron press the stand piece (5) lengthwise and in half and secure the lower edges 0.5 cm (1⁄5″) from the edge.

  2. 2

Place the stand face to face with the neckline, starting and ending the stitch from the fold of the placket. Iron press the ease allowances onto the product.

  3. 3

Wrap the upper edge of the placket, where the stand is stitched, with the second side of the placket, folding the placket face inward along the ironed fold. Cut out the corners and turn them out.

  4. 4

Cut off the twill tape to a length equal to the neckline of the long sleeve excluding the placket plus 2 cm (13⁄16″) allowances (1 cm / 3⁄8″ on each side).

  5. 5

Stitch the twill tape with the upper side close to the beginning of the stitching line of the neckline, without catching the product, placing the tape on the placket 1 cm (3⁄8″) from the stitching seam.

  6. 6

Fasten the bottom side through the neck of the long sleeve, iron press it.

  7. 7

    Topstitch along the plackets.

  8. 8

Place the left placket on the right, turn the lower ease allowance inside out and fasten the ends of the plackets and the front ease allowance with a stitch. Overlock the seam allowances and hide the ends of the threads from the overlocker on the wrong side with a needle.

  9. 9

Topstitch along the front at 0.5 cm (3⁄16″) from the stitching for fastening the ends of the plackets and the front ease allowance. Iron press it.

Assembly

5 steps
  1. 1

Fold the long sleeve right sides together and stitch the sleeve and side seam together with one seam. Iron press the allowances onto the back.

  2. 2

Iron press the bottom of the sleeve and the bottom of the product to the wrong side, overcast and stitch with a double needle or on a coverstitch machine. Iron press.

  3. 3

Mark the location of the loops on the left placket and sweep them out.

  4. 4

Mark the buttons and sew them on.

  5. 5

Iron press the finished long sleeve shirt.

The long sleeve shirt is ready!
