Step by step

Sewing instructions

Four stages, from the front and back pieces to the finished waistband.

Front and back pieces

5 steps
  1. 1

Fold the front halves of the boxer shorts face to face and sew along the middle seam. The more often you pin the lines, the more symmetrical your pattern will be. Overlock and press.

  2. 2

Fold the one-piece fly over to the left side along the notches.

  3. 3

Fasten the fly edge along the top edge.

  4. 4

Topstitch twice along the left ironed side of the fly.

  5. 5

Topstitch twice along the left ironed side of the fly.

Gusset piece

4 steps
  1. 1

Put one of the gusset pieces face to face with the instep cut of the front and pin it.

  2. 2

Put the second gusset face to the wrong side and pin such way so that the instep cut is between the two gusset pieces. Stitch.

  3. 3

Put the second side of the upper gusset face to face with the instep cut of the back, and pin. Put the second gusset face to the wrong side and pin it so that the instep cut is between the two gusset pieces. Stitch.

  4. 4

Turn the pieces inside out so that the allowances are inside the gusset.

Assembly

4 steps
  1. 1

Iron the seam allowances along the bottom to the wrong side according to the notches.

  2. 2

Place the boxer shorts face to face and stitch the side seams. Overcast the seam allowances.

  3. 3

Iron the seam allowances onto the back.

  4. 4

Overcast the bottom and topstitch along the edge of the allowance. Iron.

Waistband

10 steps
  1. 1

Fold the waistband piece lengthwise and in half with the wrong side inward and iron press.

  2. 2

Press one long edge to the wrong side by 1 cm (3⁄8″).

  3. 3

Sew the waistband into a ring, leaving a small unstitched opening for threading the elastic. Iron press the seam allowances.

  4. 4

Stitch the waistband with the unironed edge to the top edge of the boxers, laying the pieces face to face. Iron the seam allowances onto the waistband.

  5. 5

Cover the waistband stitching seam with the ironed cut edge and stitch a line into this seam. Press.

  6. 6

Decate the elastic and cut it to the desired length.

  7. 7

Pass the elastic through the unstitched opening in the waistband with a pin and stitch it into a ring.

  8. 8

Sew up the unstitched opening on a sewing machine or with hand stitches.

  9. 9

Mark the location of the buttons on the pattern and sew them on.

  10. 10

    Press the finished boxers.

The boxer shorts are ready!
